Sonia Sotomayor Nominated for the US Supreme Court

Posted by Patrick Watson on Wednesday, May 27 2009One Comment

Sonia SotomayorYesterday, President Obama announced his nomination for the approaching vacancy on the US Supreme Court, potentially the first Hispanic American woman to sit on the bench: Sonia Sotomayor.

Of course, we are operating with our hands tied behind our back without her birthtime, although there is still an interesting case of recurrence transits to examine here.

We can see that Ms. Sotomayor was born (on June 25th, 1954, unknown birthtime, in the Bronx, NY) while Mercury was retrograde in a square with Neptune, highlighted in red in the chart below. And her nomination was announced (on May 26th, 2009, 10:17 am, the White House, Washington, DC) while Mercury was retrograde, square Neptune, highlighted in blue below.

Additionally, the man who nominated her, President Obama, was born with Mercury square Neptune as well.

Supreme Court nominations have always been a testy business, and retrograde Mercury brings a little chaos, and Neptune only further adds to the confusion. This time it seems the main line of attack against her is that her judicial opinions (Mercury) would be unduly influenced by her moderately liberal ideologies (Neptune), a similar line of attack that was used against Obama in the 2008 campaign. Whether she is ultimately confirmed or not, with Pluto aligning on her natal Sun-Mars opposition, we know the process will be rough.
