Obama’s Healthcare Speech to Congress
Live blogging on the night of Obama’s healthcare speech to Congress.
According to most major news outlets the speech is set to begin at 8 pm. Around that time, the eastern horizon in Washington DC will be in early Aries, with Mercury setting in the west, which turned retrograde just a couple of days ago. As I’ve discussed before in this blog, Obama appears to be in his element when Mercury is retrograde. The controversies that come up tend to benefit him because it ends up making his opposition look worse than he does. (See the controversy surrounding the speech he planned to give to school students.) He also makes dramatic and important statements, and this special address to Congress is being billed as the “high noon” of his Presidency so far, a “gamechanger” in the strained healthcare debate.
The Moon is applying a trine to Saturn in Virgo and immediately afterward a square to Neptune. Of course, as in previous articles I’ve detailed how Saturn in Virgo (and Neptune) is historically related to previous attempts at healthcare reforms. It is expected then that the mood will be serious, with concerns about regulation and taxes, (Saturn) and a very high ideal, universal healthcare (Neptune).
7:56 pm-Nancy Pelosi quiets the crowd
8:00 pm- Michelle Obama enters
8:00 pm- CNN reports Obama is running late
8:01 pm- Obama’s cabinet enters
8:09 pm- President Obama enters
8:13 pm- Obama reaches podium
8:14 pm- Obama officially introduced by Nancy Pelosi
8:15 pm- Obama tries to quiet down the crowd, begins the speech
The ruler of the Ascendant is Mars in Cancer in the 4th, which indicates a kind of call to arms. Could also get rowdy.
“I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last.”
“The time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action.”
Now them’s fightin’ words.
Notice the Venus-Jupiter opposition perfecting across Obama’s horizonal axis, doesn’t look too bad…
8:35 pm- He starts smacking down lies about healthcare.
“Such claims would be laughable, if they weren’t so cynical and irresponsible.”
8:37 pm-Someone shouts out in the hall and everyone goes “Whooaa”, cheering is mixed with booing. A bored congressman wears a sign saying “What bill?”
8:40 pm- Obama endorses public option in healthcare reform
With the number of times people have had to stand up and clap for Obama you’d wonder if there were electrodes in the chairs.
8:55 pm- Obama invokes Ted Kennedy
9:02 pm- Obama ends speech.
I’m guessing the reaction will be good.
