Obama’s Media Blitz: New Moon in Virgo w/ Saturn & Mercury Retrograde
President Barack Obama’s media blitz kicked off Friday afternoon with a quintet of network television interviews that all aired Sunday morning, an unprecedented event for the top office. These occurred during a New Moon in Virgo, tucked tightly between Saturn and Mercury retrograde in the same sign, a formidable stellium that is also in opposition to transiting Uranus retrograde in Pisces.
The striking transits for Friday’s interviews become all the more interesting when contrasted with the birth charts of the five journalists conducting the interviews: CBS’ Bob Schieffer, Spanish-language Univision’s Jorge Ramos, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, CNN’s John King and NBC’s David Gregory. Like Ted Koppel used to say, “let’s take a look.”
Listed in chronological order of birth, depicted in left-to-right order in the banner photo:
Bob Schieffer (February 25, 1937, Austin Tx, time unknown), born with a natal sextile between the Sun in Pisces and Uranus in Taurus, brought to life with the transiting Sun-Uranus opposition in Virgo-Pisces. Furthermore, transiting Uranus retrograde is conjunct Schieffer’s natal Saturn in Pisces, opposite the transiting Virgo stellium.
Jorge Ramos (March 16, 1958, Mexico City, time unknown), currently has transiting Uranus retrograde conjunct his natal Sun in Pisces, opposed by the transiting stellium in Virgo.
George Stephanopoulos (February 10, 1961, Fall River, Ma., 10:17 a.m.) was born with the natal Sun in Aquarius opposite natal Uranus retrograde in Leo, making the current transiting Sun-Uranus opposition in Virgo-Pisces a recurrence of his natal aspect. Also, transiting Jupiter retrograde, Chiron retrograde and Neptune retrograde in Aquarius were all conjunct his natal Sun, a transit that is likely to become more relevant to him once those planets go direct in October-November 2009.
John King (August 30, 1963, Dorchester Ma., time unknown) was born with natal Uranus conjunct the natal Sun in Virgo, also bringing to life the transiting Sun-Uranus opposition in Virgo-Pisces.
David Gregory (August 24, 1970, Burbank Ca., 5:38 p.m.) currently has the progressed Sun is conjunct his progressed Uranus in Libra. The transiting Virgo stellium touches directly conjunct his natal Pluto-Mercury pre-retrograde conjunction in that sign, opposed by transiting Uranus in Pisces, clearly an important configuration for any political journalist. Gregory was only just appointed the new host of Meet The Press on December 7, 2008, to replace the recently deceased and much admired Tim Russert.
Gregory, born five days before Mercury stationed retrograde, looks poised to get stung by the current Mercury retrograde transit, by virtue of having that stellium sit right on top of his natal Pluto-Mercury conjunction. One possible way this could manifest lies in the way Gregory phrased something differently than his counterparts.
As I wrote about earlier this week, former president Jimmy Carter made statements last Tuesday about the racist tones of “an overwhelming portion” of President Obama’s political critics. While all five hosts obviously asked the President about former president Jimmy Carter’s recent remarks about racism in his political opposition, Gregory clearly misquoted Carter, in saying he said “most” of the critics were racist.
The phrase “overwhelming portion” by no means implies the term “most”. If ten percent of a lasagna were comprised of salt, that would be considered to be an extremely overwhelming portion of salt in the lasagna, but it would be incorrect to say the lasagna was “mostly salt”.
Obama, in all his interviews, disagreed with the notion that racism in his political opposition was a prime factor, but notably did not correct Gregory’s misspeaking either, an ironic situation since Gregory was taken to task on March 5, 2008, when he didn’t call then-over-tired candidate Obama when he misspoke about winning the recent Michigan primary.
Whatever the consequences of Gregory’s gaffe, the transits at the time imply that we are likely to see some form of reprisal for it soon enough.
