The Astrological Importance of Presidential Run Announcements for 2012
The 2012 US Presidential election campaigns will start to kick off as President Obama and Republican candidates make their official announcements that they will run, which will begin happening by this month. We must be vigilant to make sure that we record the time and place the candidates make their announcements because they can be extremely useful in determining what the themes of the contest will be, as well as who may end up being the winner. Don’t believe me? Look at the general transits for the main candidates of the 2008 election at the time of their announcements.
Theme of the 2008 presidential candidates: Saturn opposite Neptune
Announcements from presidential candidates for the 2008 election came pouring in in early 2007. In early 2007, the most noteworthy transit was Saturn opposite Neptune, which only happens every 36 years. This outer planetary transit set a kind of backdrop, an underlying theme for societies in that time. The presidential candidates who rose to the fore announced their runs at time that eerily synced with this zeitgeist.
President Obama announced his run for President on February 10th 2007 in Chicago, when not only was Neptune exactly on his Ascendant, but the Sun was conjunct Neptune on his Ascendant that day. Obama has quite a history with Neptune, and for many reasons detailed in this article “Barack Obama’s Rise To Power”, Obama is a very Neptunian character. Obama also has quite a family history with the Saturn-Neptune cycle, detailed in this article “Saturn-Neptune and the Obama Family”.
Hillary Clinton filmed her announcement to run and then posted it online from her home in New York, early on the morning of January 20th 2007. The Moon was conjunct Neptune in Aquarius that morning. She was also experiencing her Saturn return at the time, which Neptune was opposing.
It is nearly as if Obama and Hillary were the Neptune candidates, a man (the Sun) and a woman (the Moon) respectively, except that in Clinton’s personal transits, she was more affiliated with Saturn, as it was her Saturn return, and Neptune opposed it. And because she was more associated with Saturn, she lost.
McCain formally announced his candidacy around 12:30 pm on April 25th 2007 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Moon was at 21 Leo, conjunct Saturn at 18 Leo and exactly opposite Neptune at 21 Aquarius. His candidacy was clearly against the agenda of Neptune, and more closely associated with Saturn. As we know, the contest ended up being Obama vs McCain. Or, the Sun-Neptune opposite Saturn guy vs. the Moon-Saturn opposite Neptune guy. It appears Sun contacts are stronger than Moon contacts. Or perhaps Neptune trounces Saturn? McCain was also born with Saturn opposite Neptune.
Theme of the 2008 VP candidates and 2008 Elections: Saturn opposite Uranus
As everyone and their mother knows by now, Saturn perfected its opposition to Uranus on the very day of the 2008 elections, November 4th, 2008. Still, it seemed to be quite active in the months leading up to the perfecting aspect.
Joe Biden, astrologically speaking, was the ultimate candidate for responding to the Saturn-Uranus opposition. He was born at a Saturn-Uranus conjunction, and his MC/IC axis went across 19 Virgo/Pisces, the exact degrees Saturn and Uranus would occupy on election night.
Sarah Palin was contacted by John McCain to be his running mate on August 25th 2008. Saturn had just made a conjunction to Sarah’s natal Uranus. On the night, and even during the speech in which she officially accepted the Republican Party’s vice-presidential nomination, the Sun perfected it’s conjunction to Saturn at 11 degrees. Sarah Palin was born with the Sun conjunct Saturn.
So, what should we look for this time around?
Here are some potential candidates for themes of the 2012 election and candidates, given what happened in 2008:
Jupiter in Aries opposite Saturn in Libra
Jupiter and Saturn will be in a tight opposition from late March to early April. Also worthy to note that the Sun in Aries will oppose Saturn and conjoin Jupiter from April 4-7. The passage of healthcare reform took place at the Sun in Aries-Saturn in Libra opposition in 2010, so whoever might announce their runs for President may take up the theme of doubts and fears of the people (Saturn in Libra) against the will of the leaders (Sun, Jupiter in Aries) or fired up people and the wealthy(Sun, Jupiter in Aries) against the well-intentioned government policies in healthcare, taxes, spending (Saturn in Libra). We should expect the people who announce in this time to have Jupiter and Saturn configured in their charts, especially the opposition.
Uranus ingress into Aries, Lunar Eclipse opposite Uranus in Aries
The Sun will be conjunct Uranus at 0 Aries on March 21st. Just the day before that though on March 20th, there is a full moon opposite Uranus. This is interesting because it seems to set up candidates (the Sun and Moon) surrounded around one issue, and doesn’t appear to be part of a conflict with another planet. Since the planet is Uranus, it isn’t hard to imagine that the philosophy of these candidates will be aggressively libertarian. Candidates may have 0 Aries occupying a sensitive point in their charts or have their Sun or Moon configured with Uranus in some way. This may also have bring out announcements from candidates who were born close to eclipses (since it is a lunation square the Nodes), which includes Obama.
Neptune ingress into Pisces
Considering Obama’s strong ties to Neptune, I think the Neptune ingress in April will most likely be relevant for him. Knowing his history with the planet, all his major political success has taken place while Neptune has been in Aquarius. It is his 1st house, he became famous under Neptune’s opposition to his Sun in Leo and even became President while it was on his Ascendant. When Neptune moves into Pisces, he may lose his magic touch for good. However, once it is in Pisces, Neptune will square his Moon at 5 Gemini. This could represent one final burst of his campaign charisma, although it will be very different for him this time around. He campaigned very heavily in 2008 as an insurgent candidate against all odds and the status quo, and on the promise of hope and change. But now that he is the President, he is the status quo, and promises of change from candidates will be talking about kicking Obama out.
Ongoing planetary configurations throughout the 2012 elections:
Saturn in Libra/Scorpio trine Neptune in Aquarius/Pisces
The old theme, Saturn-Neptune, does resurface in January and October 2012 when it forms a trine, the first aspect the two planets have formed since presidential announcements were made in early 2007. This also may be particularly telling for Obama, because of his status as the Neptune candidate opposite Saturn in the 2008 election. So far, we can only tell that this will logically connect to his presidency, either spelling its end or the next step.
Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn
The last time these planets were conjunct was in the tumultuous 1960’s. I shan’t speculate as to what this may mean in 2012, other than that I would expect the headlines to feature people who were born at the conjunction, in the years 1964-1966, or even at the time of the last square, in the years 1932-1934.
The next step after finding out who is running and when they announced, will be finding their birthtimes. This will not be easy.
