Newt Gingrich Announces Run For President

Posted by on Friday, May 13 20113 Comments

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich has finally announced his run for President in 2012. At least, we know that it happened, but a precise moment of “when” is unfortunately rather iffy, and in general are a consequence of the new media environment we live in. Here are the potential candidates for the times that could be considered for Newt Gingrich’s announcement along with some astrological insight.

Update 5/25/2011: I got the wrong time for Newt Gingrich’s campaign announcement, scroll down to the very bottom of the article for more information.

May 9, 2011, 10:57 am ET-Newt Gingrich’s status on Facebook states the following: “Be sure to watch Hannity this Wednesday at 9pm ET/8pm CT. I will be on to talk about my run for President of the United States”. 2 minutes later at 10:59 am he updated the same thing on Twitter. Does an announcement about an announcement really count? News organizations seemed to think so as based on this tweet, they reported that he was running, but I don’t think it can really qualify as the symbolically significant moment when he announced to the world that he was in fact running, not when he announced that he would announce. If Gingrich himself makes a distinction between that of his “pre-announcement” and his actual announcement, then perhaps we should be paying attention to what he deems to be his actual announcement.

May 11, 2011, 3:46:44 pm ET-Newt Gingrich uploads video of campaign announcement onto YouTube. How’d I get this time? You can find out the uploading and publishing dates of YouTube videos by doing an uploads query here. Note that I had to convert the time from PT to ET.

May 11, 2011, 4:19 pm ET– Newt Gingrich tweets: “Today I am announcing my candidacy for President of the United States. You can watch my announcement here” which then contains a link to the YouTube video published to the internet just about 35 minutes before. The fact that he says “You can watch my announcement here” appears to indicate that he considers the video itself to be his announcement. Just under an hour later at 5:14 pm he posted the same thing on Facebook. This also happened hours before his appearance on Hannity later that night

May 11, 2011, 9pm ET, New York City, NY– Gingrich announces his run for President on Hannity’s show on the Fox network, and it happens pretty much right off the bat.

The reason why I lean more towards the idea of considering the publishing time of the video (May 11, 2011, 3:46:44 pm ET) is because at that moment, if anyone had just happened to be browsing Gingrich’s YouTube page, they would have been able to see the video within that 35 minute timeframe between the publishing of the video and the announcement of his candidacy with the posting of the link to the video on Twitter.  Before he was able to post the video on his website, send an email out to supporters, or post it on Twitter and Facebook, he had to publish the video on YouTube. And he himself seems to consider the video itself the announcement. So I think we have a “when”. To cast a chart though, we will also need a “where”.

Judging by the video it looks like he announced from some dark formless void, although through cross-referencing the post times of Gingrich’s tweets and Facebook posts I have deduced that he is basing his operations from a location within the Eastern timezone. It’s been reported that he is basing his campaign headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, which is in the Eastern timezone. The most likely place from where the video was uploaded then was from Atlanta, Georgia.

The chart of Newt Gingrich’s announcement:

May 11, 2011, 3:46:44 pm, Atlanta, GA

UPDATE 5/25/2011: Incorrect chart, scroll down

The most notable feature is of course the one even astronomers are excited about, the pileup at the end of Aries between Mercury, Venus and Jupiter. Astrologically, this is considered to be a fairly auspicious combination. Plausible astrological interpretations could include success in fundraising, a bounty of surrogates/allies, endorsements. In his slogans and speech he may exaggerate or be overly optimistic. This would be a fairly propitious time for any candidate announcing at this time. This conjunction happens to be in aspect to some relevant planets in his chart. They are sextile his Sun at 26 Gemini and square his Jupiter at 27 Cancer, and if his birth time is anywhere near accurate, it is also trine his Moon around 25 Sagittarius.

What is fairly striking about this chart though is its similarities to other charts. I must note however, that Gingrich’s birth time is officially rated DD by ADB due to conflicting and unverified sources. However, 2 of the 3 sources listed report a time some short while before midnight which I am inclined to regard as corroboration. While this could still be totally wrong, I will use the time of 11:45 pm just for the purposes of this demonstration, since the observations are only mildly sensitive to his birth time.

  • The Nodes are going across the MC/IC axis of the announcement chart, while they are also aligned with Gingrich’s natal Sun (and possibly his Moon as well). It should be noted that Obama had the Nodes align with his Sun at the 2008 election.
  • Like Obama again, Gingrich was born with Sun square Neptune. Like Donald Trump (more on him in an article coming soon), Gingrich was born with the Sun in late Gemini opposite the Moon in late Sagittarius (if the time is close). Like John McCain’s announcement to run for President in 2007, the Moon was opposite Neptune.

While Obama’s signature for the 2012 election is Sun-Jupiter-opposite-Saturn, we mustn’t forget about the Saturn-Neptune theme from 2008 which will resurface in 2012 with the Saturn-Neptune trine. Obama and other Democrats seemed to generally be on the side of Neptune, since the Sun was conjunct Neptune at Obama’s presidential run announcement in 2007, and Hillary’s announcement in 2007 came while the Moon was conjunct Neptune. The Republican nominee was John McCain, who announced his run in 2007 with the Moon opposite Neptune. These also turned out to be the three most prominent candidates in the 2008 cycle. Sun conjunctions beat Moon conjunctions I guess. The point is, the fact that the Moon is opposite Neptune again at the campaign announcement of Newt Gingrich shows that he is politically and literally positioned against Neptune just as McCain was, Neptune being personified by Obama. The other curious thing, is if his birth time is correct, then he has virtually the same Ascendant as Obama, and experienced Neptune transits to the Ascendant at the same time as Obama did, which coincided with Obama’s run for President. I’m sure this will all make sense soon as we keep track of these announcements as they roll out.

UPDATE 5/25/2011: Due to a basic misunderstanding of the timezone of the API data, the time I’ve given for the uploading of the video is not correct, which I’ve explained in a new post here. The correct time that Gingrich uploaded his campaign announcement onto YouTube was on May 11th, 2011, 8:46:44 am, Atlanta, Georgia. Here is the chart:
