Echoes of Stonewall: New York Legalizes Gay Marriage

Posted by on Friday, June 24 20113 Comments

New York will have become the sixth state in the US to legalize gay marriage upon Governor Andrew Cuomo’s signature. This news is of somewhat special significance for New York, as it was in Greenwich Village where the modern gay rights movement began with the Stonewall Riots of 1969.

We are just days away from the 42nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots where gay men and women stood up to a police raid on a gay bar and the world saw it. The astrologically-conscious person might be aware that 42 years is the amount of time it takes for Uranus to travel halfway around the zodiac. The original Stonewall Riots on June 28th 1969 occurred 4 days after Uranus ingressed into Libra. Now, Uranus is opposing that point in the early degrees of Aries. Additionally, Mars was retrograde at 2 Sagittarius on the night of the riots and tonight at the time the bill was passed, Mars was at the opposite degree, 2 Gemini. It is almost a comically blatant reversal: 42 years ago, gay people had to fight against the law for their rights, today, those who make the law fought for the rights of gay people. Together, these Mars and Uranus oppositions represent a progressive step forward in the fight (Mars) for human rights for gay people (Uranus).

  • Francis says:

Thank you Patrick. I scour the web for astrologers who include gay events as important enough to analyze. Haven’t found any, even the more progressive sites that I frequent maintain a gay cone of silence. Bravo to you for this article and it is truly amazing about the mirror to the Stonewall chart! Brilliant of you for capturing that. Wondering if there was anything of merit going on when Uranus was at the 90 degree position?

  • Here is some data from my files:

Stonewall: June 28, 1969, 3:10 am, New York. I found this in an issue of TMA.

Gay marriage New York: June 24, 2011, 10:30 pm Albany. (Not sure why the 10:30 time, no longer remember. Presumably news account.)

Gay marriage California: June 16, 2008, 5:00 pm San Francisco. (Same note as to time.)

Gay marriage Mass: May 17, 2004, 12:00:01 am, Boston.

Gay marriage New Jersey: February 20, 2007, 12:00.01 am, Trenton.

Please be aware these charts may be read in a politically correct fashion, or in a somewhat more critical, strictly astrological fashion. Nothing is ever all good or all bad. I would particularly point out the positions of the fixed stars in the various charts.

In these charts I can find various gay signatures, but I leave those up to you.

  • Forgot one:

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell ends: September 20, 2011, 12:01 am, Washington. Set this in New York, watch what Pluto does.

    And, if you like:
The Logo TV network: June 30, 2005, 9:00 pm, New York.
