Paul Ryan Announced as Romney’s Running Mate

Paul Ryan Announced as Romney's Running MateOn Saturday morning Mitt Romney announced that he had chosen Wisconsin senator Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate for the election in November.

After reviewing some of the potential vice-presidential candidates, we focused in on one in particular, and back in mid-June The Political Astrology Blog obtained Paul Ryan’s birth time and then published it along with his birth chart in a previous article.

For some insight into Ryan’s life and career, please see the article that was recently published on our sister site Saturn Return Stories titled The Astrology of Paul Ryan’s Political Ascent.

The Public Announcement

Romney publicly announced that Ryan was his running mate at a rally in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at exactly 9:21 EDT. A few minutes later Ryan joined him on stage at 9:28 AM.

The screenshot below was taken at the exact moment that Romney made the announcement at the rally.  Note the time in the top left corner.

Romney announces Paul Ryan as VP pick

When Romney called Ryan on stage at 9:27 he made what some might see as an ominous gaffe when he said

Join me in welcoming the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan.

He ended up correcting himself a few minutes later.  We should mention that Obama made a similar mistake four years ago when he first introduced Joe Biden, and that hasn’t turned out to be terribly portentous so far, although Romney’s statement may still be worth noting given the symbolic significance of the moment for Ryan.

Earlier Announcement Times?

I’ve seen a few astrologers who noted the 9:21 AM announcement time at this point, although no one seems to have pointed out that there was a separate announcement that was made earlier in the day.

Technically the official announcement about picking Ryan was sent out two hours before the Norfolk rally, via a mobile phone application that was specifically marketed so that Romney supporters could be the first to find out who his running-mate was.  According to the Wall Street Journal and the New York Daily News, that announcement was sent out via the app just after 7:00 AM eastern time.

There is a bit of a problem though, because we don’t know whether the campaign staffer who pressed the button at 7:00 to send out the announcement was in Norfolk with Romney and Ryan, or if they were back at Romney’s campaign headquarters in Boston.  It looks like the rising sign changes depending on the location, which means that the difference is pretty major from an electional standpoint.

Both charts feature an auspicious Moon-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini, although one of the charts is distinctly more auspicious than the other due to the change of rising sign.  While we cannot say which of the two 7:00 AM charts is the correct one, it seems that because the 7:00 AM announcement was earlier, and also because it appears to have been considered to be the official announcement, that it should in fact be more important than the 9:21 AM announcement at the rally.

That being said, here are the three announcement charts:

FYI…. I want to make note here… that I was listening/watching FOX News around 11:10 PM EDT (just a few minutes into the repeat of O’Reilly, with Laura Ingrahm hosting… I missed a portion of her talking points memo earlier during the first showing… so wanted to catch the rest of it and tuned into the 2nd viewing…), when they interrupted the program with the news alert that Romney would reveal his VP selection the next morning around 9 AM EDT (Saturday) in Norfolk VA, where he was going to be kicking off his 4 day bus tour… However, I stayed up and continued to watch/listen to all their commentaries on the various possible choices, but for the most part they all zero’d in on Ryan, many believing it was going to be him. About 1:03 AM EDT, the host commentator, Craig Boswell, said that it was just coming across the AP news wire service, that it was confirmed by a source wishing to remain unnamed at that point, that Paul Ryan was indeed Romney’s VP selection… Very few people heard/saw that, as it was so late at night, and you’d have had to been watching at that very time. I just happened to note on the clock that it was about 1:03 AM EDT.

Thanks for the heads up. It seems like a lot of media outlets got word of the pick sometime the night before. I think that the main thing that is important though is when the Romney campaign decided to make whatever they consider the “official” announcement to be, because that was the moment that they made the conscious decision to let the world know that Ryan was on the ticket. I think that that is really the most astrological significant moment, at least from the standpoint of trying to identify a single inception chart.

I agree… you’re right. Just thought it was FYI regarding the AP wire service news flash confirmation around 1 AM that same night! I agree though, that the formal annoucement in Gov Romney’s own words is likely most significant. As you say, they did send it out via the app. around 7 AM. But of course that didn’t go to everyone in the world at that time. Most people were waiting for the 9 AM announcement. Thanks for all the info!!

I go with the 9:21 AM chart.

Those messages that went out likely were on a timer on a server somewhere who knows where.

Plus, the night of Romney’s speech, the moon is conjunct the chart’s DSC. That’s conjunct Neptune there. And Neptune, as you probably know, is coming to direct conjunction with the Solar Eclipse point from May 20th, on election day.
