Podcast on the Astrology of the Presidential Election
Patrick Watson and I just finished recording a two hour podcast on the astrology of the 2012 presidential election for a new show called The Astrology Podcast.
You can download the episode on the presidential election on The Astrology Podcast’s website.
Frequent readers of The Political Astrology Blog will be familiar with many of the topics that we discussed in the podcast, since it was mainly meant to provide an overview of the astrology surrounding the election, although we also discussed some topics that we haven’t covered here yet on this blog.
During the course of the episode we talk about different approaches to forecasting the outcome of presidential elections, as well the particular approach that we took when researching our own prediction.
We also discussed other topics such as Obama and Romney’s natal charts, the inception charts for the RNC and DNC, the Mercury retrograde on Election Day, and the ominous looking chart for the inauguration on January 20, 2013.
To listen to the episode just head over to The Astrology Podcast and scroll down to the bottom of the article titled The Astrology of the 2012 Presidential Election.

This was such a great podcast. Thanks for all of your amazing and hard work. It is so refreshing to listen to astrology about the election and candidates without having it accompanied by a political rant of one side or another. It’s much more interesting and informative that way. You guys are great!
Great podcast! Thanks for taking the time to do it, guys. A question: given that the polls and general circumstances seem to be far worse for Romney at this point (late September) than might have been predicted, do you think it is likely that the Mercury/Neptune issues occurring on Election Day might manifest as a challenge to the legitimacy of the election rather than confusion over the process of the election? For example, more birth certificate madness or some other nonsensical political trantrums rather than, say, malfunctioning voting machines in Cleveland?
Really enjoyed your podcast!
I know that things have changed somewhat since you put together the podcast and the charts for both Romney and Obama. Looking and subsequent events I was wondering if the possible scenario could be true as well:
1. You mentioned that Obama tends to have luck during Mercury Retrogrades, and that many positive aspects align for him through the end of the year.
2. The day of the first debate is shown as a foreshadowing day for him based on his L4 in Leo. Obama had a horrible night that night as many have already noted.
3. Romney has a major change in life direction when Mercury moves out of retrograde.
4. The inauguration day chart is not positive and a war chart.
My question is this: Could it actually be that Obama loosing the election is lucky for him based on the inauguration day chart? Could it also be lucky for him to *loose* given the possibility of a contentious election (the Mercury Retrograde) where the legitimacy of his presidency is in question? Could it also be that it is actually unlucky for Romney to *win* the election because of the inauguration day chart?
1. I’ll let Patrick take the Mercury retrograde question, although I think that the point was just that retrograde periods have generally been when important things happen for Obama.
2. Yes, the first debate was a foreshadowing period, and it is connected to the repetition of a Leo period that will occur at the loosing of the bond from October 24-28, which is just after the second debate. Often times the foreshadowing period indicates the native almost doing something, like making a career change, but then postponing it until later. At the loosing of the bond usually they find themselves in the same set of circumstances, but at that point they follow through with making whatever the change is that they were originally going to make. This foreshadowing/loosing of the bond dynamic is the things we talked about Romney having on Election Day and then again three weeks later in our official prediction. The question for Obama then is whether the loosing will show a repetition of events, or a reversal? It is odd that it comes a few days after the debate, almost like either the results of the final debate aren’t fully crystallized until then, or some event comes up in that last week of October that is significant for Obama (like an October surprise?).
3. Romney has a loosing of the bond on L4 around the same time Mercury stations direct. The foreshadowing period that it is predicated on coincides with Election Day. It is the two Pisces periods for him in our ZR comparison chart:

4. Yes, the inauguration chart is not that positive, and shows similarities with Bush’s 2001 inauguration chart, which was a war chart.
With respect to your question, I think that you could take it that way maybe, but we don’t necessarily think that that is the case because Obama does have some difficult long term transits that started recently, and I think that that may be tied into why the inauguration chart looks kind of tough. That Saturn ingress into Scorpio in particular, which is Obama’s 10th whole sign house, is the start of a difficult 3 year transit for him career wise. Ultimately we came to the conclusion earlier this year that what that meant was not that he would lose the election, but that his second term wouldn’t be the cakewalk that everyone assumes. Later when we started looking at the inauguration chart we started to understand why that might be the case.
Obama has had a history of making important announcements and being able to benefit from the chaos or contention associated with Mercury retrogrades, which I went into a bit of detail about here (http://politicalastrologyblog.com/2009/01/19/the-void-moon-and-mercury-retro-on-obamas-inauguration-make-sense/). Mercury retrograde isn’t always bad for everyone, and I think a major reason why Obama tends to have better luck with Mercury retrogrades is because he was born with Mercury opposite Jupiter. Mercury’s nature is variable for each person and will hinge on aspects it receives to determine whether it may be more malefic or benefic.
